FORT WORTH TX (11-6-09) - ARCA RE/MAX Series veteran Bryan Silas thought he might as well get a jump on the competition. The Stuart, Florida driver has entered the no. 48 Rockingham Speedway-Polar Bear 150 Chevy Silverado for tonight's (Friday) NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Lone Star 350k at Texas Motor Speedway.
Texas Motor Speedway officials announced in late summer that the ARCA RE/MAX Series will be returning to the Fort Worth, Texas 1.5-mile speedway in 2010 for an event on April 16th.
"Since the ARCA Series will be racing at Texas next year, without a doubt, the track time I get Friday night will put me ahead of the game for next year," said Silas, who finished a career-best sixth in ARCA championship points in 2009. "The vehicles are completely different but I'll be learning the preferred line and experiencing the changing track characteristics."
It's been seven months since Silas sat behind the wheel of a NCWTS truck. Tonight's race in Texas will mark his 10th career NCWTS start. Silas will be starting 35th in the line-up.
"I'm excited about getting back in a truck, especially at Texas," added the 22-year-old driver. "My goal is to go out there and gain plenty of track time with the intentions of hopefully scoring a top-15 finish. It's been a while since I've been in a truck but I'm looking forward to again being a part of the excitement that the series brings."
In addition to the carrying the Rockingham Speedway logo on Silas's Andy Hillenburg-owned Fast Track Truck, the team will utilize the Texas event to promote the upcoming Polar Bear 150, an annual New Year's day street-stock event at Rockingham Speedway pioneered by nine-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel.
"The Polar Bear 150 is a big deal for "The Rock", continued Silas. "Frank did a tremendous job with the event last year. Hopefully the race in Texas will bring more awareness about the event and get some fans to come out on New Year's Day 2010 to see what it's all about. It's one heck of a show."
Silas's career-best NCWTS finish is 16th at Daytona Int'l Speedway in 2009. He also led a lap in that event.
Friday's Lone Star 350K is live on SPEED at 9:00 pm Eastern with additional coverage available through the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM-Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128.
