NOTES OF INTEREST: The inaugural Loud Energy Drink 150 marks the 10th time the ARCA RE/MAX Series has competed on a road course since 1958 when the series made its first road course debut at the now defunct Meadowdale Raceway in Carpentersville, Illinois. The list of former ARCA RE/MAX Series road course winners is impressive, and includes Fred Lorenzen (Meadowdale 1958), Nelson Stacy (Meadowdale 1960), Elmer Musgrave (Meadowdale 1964), Jack Bowsher (Mid Ohio Sports Car Course 1965), Bob Schacht (St. Louis Int'l Raceway 1986), Ken Schrader (Heartland Park 1991), Darrell Waltrip (Heartland Park 1992), Scott Lagasse, Sr. (Streets of Des Moines 1994) and John Finger (Watkins Glen Int'l 2001). Current ARCA RE/MAX Series point leader Scott Speed, who drives the Red Bull Toyota for Eddie Sharp Racing, may have a leg-up on the road course competition having come from the Formula 1 circuit, which competes on road courses entirely. Roush Fenway Racing development driver Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., currently 2nd in points, has only raced on a road course once, whereas Matt Carter, currently 3rd in points, has never raced on a road course. 9-time series champion Frank Kimmel, however, has 5 road course starts - 4 with the ARCA RE/MAX Series and 1 with IROC. In 4 ARCA RE/MAX Series road course starts, Kimmel has 4 top-10 finishes with a career-best 2nd place finish on the Des Moines IA street course in 1994. Kimmel also finished 3rd at Watkins Glen, and 7th & 9th at Heartland Park. Justin Allgaier, currently 5th in points, has never raced on a road course. Allgaier just recently signed with Penske Racing to drive in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. "I've never raced on a road course, but given my new opportunities, I may one day be (racing on road courses); so I consider this another opportunity to learn," said Allgaier. "It's also really exciting too because it's a new experience for me. My goal is to finish with the car intact and run as consistently as I can lap after lap. We're actually going to test at New Jersey Motorsports Park this Tuesday." Cherry Hill, New Jersey's Tom Hessert III, currently 6th in points, is a veteran of road course racing having competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona as a teammate to his father Tom Hessert II in 2003 and 2004. Hessert's father Tom Hessert II is a renowned road course racer and 3-time winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona. From NJMP, the ARCA RE/MAX Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway for the ARCA RE/MAX 250 Friday, October 3rd before wrapping up the 2008 season with the Hantz Group 200 by Belle Tire and Federated Car Care at Toledo Speedway on October 12th.
